As you know, Remembrance is approaching and soon the country will stop to remember and honour the heroes of our Armed Forces and all who served. At Scotty’s we understand that although it’s a time of year to feel proud, it can also be very difficult.
Here you will find information about Scotty's Remembrance Weekend event, drop-in sessions and even resources to help support you through what can be a challenging time. Please don't be afraid to reach out if you need extra support, use the contact form at the bottom of the page.
Every Scotty Member and Springboarder will be receiving a Remembrance Pack with resources which have been designed to support you in the lead up to November 11th.
This year, we have included a Scotty's Remembrance Bracelet which you might want to wear with pride, perhaps popping it under your school jumper as a reminder that Scotty's is there, and that we are thinking of you. Or you might prefer to place it somewhere you can see it, on a memory shelf or a favourite cuddly toy.
You will also find the "I'm Remembering" selfie card in your pack. Please feel free to take photos with your card and ask your parent or carer to share them on our Facebook page or send to the Families email/mobile phone.
If you are not attending our Remembrance Weekend Event in London you will also receive a voucher for a meal out with your family to take time to remember your hero.
We have a full programme of online drop-in sessions for our Members and Springboarders, and also for your parents and carers. You will find the programme of events in your pack, you will also be able to access this and more resources at the bottom of this page.
If you feel like you are struggling or would like to talk to someone, Mark, our Child and Young Person Bereavement Worker, is available for one-to-one sessions. Or you are welcome to join our drop-in sessions to chat with the Scotty's Team and other Members.
Feel free to reach out using the contact form at the bottom of the page.
If you have never attended our Remembrance Weekend Event before and are feeling a little nervous, or would like to know what to expect, watch this video from Nikki, to find out more:
Here's a little video from Mark, our Child & Young Person Bereavement Support Worker, to remind you that we are thinking of you this Remembrance.
Those who are joining us in London are invited for a full weekend, which includes an evening at the BBC's Festival of Remembrance on Saturday night at the Royal Albert Hall followed by Sunday morning marching in the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph. It's a chance to bring together our military families to march in memory of their heroes and can be a proud, but emotional day. This year we have 93 Scotty's Members, Springboarders and parents and carers marching in the parade in their yellow-and-black scarves. We would love if you would join us next year for what is always a very special occasion for our Scotty's Families.
If you can't attend the weekend, you can also watch the Festival of Remembrance and National Parade of Remembrance on BBC1.
Scotty’s have created two animations to explain how the death of a military parent can impact bereaved British Forces children and young people, and particularly around Remembrance. Both animations were inspired by our Scotty’s Members Council and were kindly funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust as a tool for educating about the challenges faced by bereaved military families. The animation below is the one we created for children and young people – let us know what you think!
